Hall Tanner Dillion Johnson 1864-1901 Physician

 

In 1864 Halle Tanner Dillion Johnson was born in Pittsburgh. At age 24, she decided to become a doctor and enrolled in Women's Medical School. After finishing medical school. She face the dilemma of where to practice medicine. She decided to join the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama.

At Tuskegee Institute, she established a nursing school. Halle Tanner Dillion Johnson also staffed the Lafayette Dispensary, which provided medical care for student and for the community residents.

She later married the Reverend John Quincy, a mathematics teacher. They relocated to South Carolina when he was named President of Allen University.

Halle Tanner Dillion Johnson was the first woman to pass the medical Board in the state of Alabama.

 

 

Margaret Mead 1901-1978 Anthropologist

 

Margaret Mead was born in 1901. Mead became one of American's notable anthropologist, until her death in 1978.
